About Renita Koehn
Renita Rosser Koehn was born and raised in Maysville, Kentucky, the younger of two siblings. She took a keen interest in the piano at an early age and began arranging hymn tunes and familiar songs "by ear" before she was 9 years old. In high school, she was under the instruction of a wonderful choral director and music teacher, Coralie Runyan-Jones, who began teaching her music theory and voice. As a freshman, she toured Europe with Mrs. Runyan-Jones' choir, singing in 9 countries. She also participated in All-State choirs and some fabulous and memorable choral festivals at Morehead State University. In her junior year of high school, she placed first in the state in a music theory test and placed second in the state as a solo vocalist.
She then attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where she graduated with a BA in music, with Voice as her major emphasis. During college, she traveled with New Covenant, a college ministry group for 3+ years, and also with Discovery, an international singing and drama group for 3 summers. After college, she began working as a part-time Minister of Music where she began conducting and arranging pieces for choir or solo voice and piano. During those years, she got her MM degree from Morehead State University in Vocal Performance. She began her teaching career at Point Loma Nazarene College in 1989 and taught there for 8 years. She later completed her DMA in Vocal Performance from the University of Kentucky. That's where she met Daniel, her husband. She has also taught at Belhaven College in Jackson, MS; Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, TN; and the University of Kentucky. She currently teaches at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY.
She currently serves on the worship team for the annual Come to the Fire women's conference, and appears on their 2 albums: "Reflect His Glory" and "Enter His Rest." She was a co-writer for 4 of the songs on the "Enter His Rest" album and enjoys exploring song-writing. In addition, she is currently a Bible Study teacher at a Titus Women's Bible Study in Wilmore, KY, and leads a Lydia Prayer Group in her local church.
She enjoys a variety of activities including cooking, composing & arranging music, crochet & knitting, Bible study, photographing flowers, going for walks, playing table games with friends, gardening, setting a pretty table, making music, and making memories with family.
